Join a League

You may choose to join a public league, and you will be grouped with other team owners who select the same draft time and entry fee. You may also choose to join an existing public league with an already scheduled draft time. If you cannot find an existing public league with a desirable draft time, you may create a new public league and select your desired draft time.

If a league does not fill one (1) hour prior to its draft time, the league will be dissolved. Team owners in the dissolved league will be notified and asked to register for a different league and draft time. For additional information regarding this, please refer to the CHANGE LEAGUE section of these rules.

Change League

The CHANGE LEAGUE option (accessed by clicking on DRAFT TOOLS in the navigational bar of links) allows you to withdraw from your current league and re-register for a different league and draft time. You may not, however, re-register for a league with an entry fee and prize level which is different than your original league. You may change your league provided that your current league has not filled and, thus, is not yet locked. In the event that your league is dissolved because it has not filled prior to the draft time, you will be asked to use this option to select a new league and draft time for your team.

DRAFT YOUR TEAM

Online Draft

Once your league is filled, the league and draft time are locked, and you will receive an email confirming your league's draft date and time, as well as the draft order for the teams in your league.

SLOW DRAFTS: At the $25, $50 and $100 entry level you can choose to join a league with a slow draft. Slow drafts allow 8 hours for teams to make their draft selections. Once a slow draft league fills, the draft will start at 1:00 PM CT. Any league that fills after 12:00 PM CT will start their draft at 1:00 PM CT the following day. After each selection is made, an email will be sent to all slow draft teams. The email will list the last selection made, the team that is on the clock, the team to follow the team on the clock, and the previous selections made.

PLEASE NOTE: The deadline to register for a slow draft is Monday, February 21, 2018. If your slow draft is not completed by 12:00 PM CT on Sunday, March 25th, the time allotted for picks will be shortened to insure that the draft will be completed by 9:00 AM CT on Thursday, March 29, 2018. For example, if 84 picks need to be made to complete your draft, the allotted time will be 2 hours per pick (2 hours per pick x 84 picks = 168 hours). You will receive an email notifying you if it becomes necessary to shorten draft time limits.

Time Limit To Draft

There is a 75 second limit between each pick. If a pick is not made in the allotted time, your selection will be made from (1st) the top player in your queue, (2nd) the top player from your pre-selected list or (3rd) the top player from the automated list of default player rankings.

The time allotted for you to make your picks during your league's draft depends upon whether you selected to participate in a standard draft league or a slow draft league. If you do not select a slow draft league, you are automatically entered in a standard draft league.

Standard Draft: There is a 75 second limit between each pick. If a pick is not made in the allotted time, your selection will be made from (1st) the top player in your queue, (2nd) the top player from your pre-selected list or (3rd) the top player from the automated list of default player rankings.

Slow Draft: There is an 8 hour time limit for each owner to make their selection. If a pick is not made in the allotted time, your selection will be made from (1st) the top player in your queue, (2nd) the top player from your pre-selected list or (3rd) the top player from the automated list of default player rankings.

Team 10 picks 10th, Team 10 picks 11th, Team 9 picks 12th, Team 8 picks 13th, ... Team 1 picks 20th, Team 1 picks 21st, and so forth through 28 rounds. In each round, you will have up to 75 seconds to draft your player. The draft order is set by CDM Sports and cannot be changed.

Online Draft 12-Team League

Your draft will be conducted using a pre-determined, random-generated draft order and a snake-order format such that Team 1 picks first, Team 2 picks second, ... Team 12 picks 12th, Team 12 picks 13th, Team 11 picks 14th, Team 10 picks 15th, ... Team 1 picks 24th, Team 1 picks 25st, and so forth through 28 rounds. In each round, you will have up to 75 seconds to draft your player. The draft order is set by CDM Sports and cannot be changed.

You may draft your players using three available methods:

  1. Live player selection
  2. Draft list selection
  3. Automated selection

Live Player Selection

You may select your player from the pool of available players during your allotted time. To make live player selections, you must be logged on to the website during the time of your draft. Once you have made your live player selection, the draft proceeds to the next team in the draft order regardless of any time remaining in your allotment. If you do not complete your selection within the alloted time, CDM Sports will select your player from your draft list, if available, or from the automated list, and will continue to auto-draft your players each time it is your team's turn to draft. You must turn off the automated drafting in order to resume making live player selections.

Draft List Selection

Prior to and during your league's draft, you may create a draft list of players that are ranked in the order that you would like them selected for your team. If you are not logged on to the website during the time of your draft and you have created a draft list, CDM Sports will select the next available player from your draft list that will fill an open position in your starting lineup. Once your starting lineup has been filled, CDM Sports will select your reserve players. If your draft list is exhausted or if your draft list does not have a player at the appropriate player position, CDM Sports will select your player from the automated list. When drafting from your draft list, CDM Sports will select your next player as soon as it is your team's turn to draft and will not allow the allocated time to expire. If you log on during your draft, you must turn off the automated drafting in order to use your allocated time and make live draft selections.

Automated Selection

If you are not logged on to the website during the time of your draft and you have not created a draft list, CDM Sports will select the next available player from the automated list of default player rankings. The default player rankings have been determined using CDM Sports Projected Results. When drafting from the automated list, CDM Sports will select your next player as soon as it is your team's turn to draft and will not allow the time to expire. If you log on during your draft, you must turn off the automated drafting in order to use your allocated time and make live draft selections.

Once the draft has been completed, you will receive an email confirming the rosters of the drafted teams in your league.

Once you draft your team, the only changes that you can make until 1:00 PM CT on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, are roster shifts, roster switches and requests for waiver wire acquisitions. Waiver wire acquisitions are awarded between 1:00 PM CT and 3:00 PM CT. After 3:00 PM CT on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, you can make roster shifts, roster switches, and free agent acquisitions. For additional information regarding this, please refer to the MODIFY TEAM section of the rules.

Position Eligibility

A hitter may be drafted for any position (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF) at which he played 20 or more games in the previous season and, thus, some hitters may be eligible to be drafted at more than one position. If a hitter played less than 20 games at one position in the previous season, he is only eligible to be drafted at the position at which he played the most games during the previous season. If a hitter did not play in any games in the previous season, his position eligibility assignment is determined by CDM Sports.

If a DH hitter played less than 20 games at one position (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF) but he did DH in 20 or more games in the previous season, he is only eligible to be drafted at the Utility position. If a DH hitter played less than 20 games at any position (including as a DH in the previous season) and he played as a DH more than any position in the field, he is only eligible to be drafted at the Utility position.

Once the season begins, a hitter is eligible for any position at which he plays at least 10 games during the current season.

If a player is listed as a pitcher, then he may only be drafted as a pitcher. He is not available as a hitter.

All position eligibility assignments are reviewed and finalized by CDM Sports.

Listed and Unlisted Players

You can select any available listed player during your league's draft. Listed players may be selected as starters and as reserves.

You cannot select an unlisted player during your league's draft.

Previously unlisted players will be added to the player list each Tuesday through Saturday at 11:00 AM CT. In order for a player to be listed the player must be added to the official 25 man roster of his professional baseball team. Once a player has been officially listed, he may then be selected during league drafts, and he may be requested by teams via the waiver wire acquisition process.

The player list is not updated on Sunday or Monday each week during the Contest. Players that are added to the official 25 man roster after 11:00 AM CT on Saturday will be made available the following Tuesday for that weeks free agent process.

To request that an unlisted player be added to the list, please email us at [email protected]. All requests will be reviewed, and players will be added to the list at the discretion of CDM Sports. There are no guarantees that all requests will be met as a player must be placed on the official 25 man roster in order to be available as a free agent in Draft & Play Baseball.

Protected List of Players

Each week during the regular season, players who are dropped from teams in your league, either for a waiver wire acquisition or free agent acquisition, as well as players who are promoted to the majors from the minor leagues or who come off the official disabled list after Sunday morning. Players on your league's protected list may only be acquired via the waiver wire process. Once these players clear waivers on Sunday afternoon, they may be acquired as first-come first-serve free agents.

Waiver Pool of Players

Every Monday after 7:00 PM CT, the waiver pool for the next waiver period will be determined and will consist of players who are not on any team in your league and not on the official disabled list, players who are on your league's protected list, players who have been dropped by teams in your league, players who have been promoted to the majors from the minor leagues. The waiver pool will be updated during the week with any additional players who are promoted to the majors from the minor leagues, who come off the official disabled list. These updates will occur one time each day in the morning, Tuesday through Saturday. Players MAY NOT be acquired until they have been placed on the official 25 man roster with their professional baseball team and must go through the leagues waiver process before being available as a first-come first-serve free agent.
