League Formation

All leagues in DRAFT & PLAY BASKETBALL are 10-team leagues. At the time of signup, you will determine how you wish to compete in DRAFT & PLAY BASKETBALL by specifying your league scoring system, as well as your entry fee and prize level.

Entry Fee and Prize Level

You may compete at any one of three entry fee and prize levels as follows:

Cost to Play:
$25
$50
$100
PRIZES:
1st Place
$100
$250
$500
2nd Place
$25
$50
$200

Leagues will consist of 10 teams that have paid the same entry fee and selected the same scoring system.

League Scoring Options
You may choose from one of three scoring options:

  1. Total Points: To determine standings, teams are ranked by the total points accumulated by the players in their starting lineups. The team with the most points finishes first and the team with the fewest points finishes last.
  2. Head-to-Head: Standings are determined using head-to-head weekly matchups and point-style scoring. Your team wins, losses, or ties based on the points accumulated by the players on your team versus the points accumulated by the players on your opponent's team. Your team's win-loss-tie record then determines your place in the standings, as well as whether or not your team advances to the playoffs.
  3. Rotisserie: To determine results, teams are ranked from first to last in each of 8 statistical categories, and points are assigned based on these rankings. For instance, in a 10-team league, the team that finishes first in a category earns 10 points, the second-place team earns 9 points, and so on down to the last-place team, which earns one point. This system applies to all 8 categories, each of which has equal value. The most points that a team in a 10-team league can accumulate if it finishes first in every statistical category is 80 points.

Join a League

You may choose to join a league, and you will be grouped with 9 other team owners who select the same scoring system, entry fee, and draft time.

Dissolved League

If a league does not have 10 teams registered one (1) hour prior to its draft time, the league will be dissolved. Team owners in the dissolved league will be notified and asked to register for a different league and draft time. For additional information, please refer to the CHANGE LEAGUE section of the rules below.

Change League

The CHANGE LEAGUE option (accessed by clicking on DRAFT TOOLS in the navigational bar of links) allows you to withdraw from your current league and re-register for a different league and draft time. You may not, however, re-register for a league with a different scoring system or entry fee than your original league. You may change your league provided that your current league does not have 10 teams registered and is not yet locked. In the event that your league is dissolved due to having fewer than 10-registered teams prior to the draft time, you will be asked to use this option to select a new league and draft time for your team. Please note that any change to a draft time must be done no later than ONE HOUR prior to the draft.

Once 10 teams have registered for your league, the league and draft time are locked, and you can no longer change leagues or draft times.

DRAFT YOUR TEAM

Overview

During your league's draft time, you will draft your initial roster of 17 players. Your draft will be conducted using a pre-determined, random-generated draft order in a serpentine order format such that Team 1 picks first, Team 2 picks second, and so on until Team 10 picks 10th. Then, team 10 picks 11th, Team 9 picks 12th, Team 8 picks 13th and so on until Team 1 picks 20th. Then, Team 1 picks 21st and so forth through 17 rounds. Once a player has been selected, he is removed from the pool of available players and no other team in your 10-team league may select him. Your team must consist of 10 starters and 7 reserves. These players remain on your team until you decide to modify your team.

For leagues that complete their draft before 4:00 PM CT on Sunday, October 15, 2017, the only changes that you can make until 4:00 PM CT on Sunday, October 15, 2017 are roster switches and requests for worst-to-first free agent acquisitions. After 6:00 PM CT on Sunday, October 15, 2017, you can make roster switches and first-come-first-served free agent acquisitions until 6:00 PM CT on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. For additional information regarding this, please refer to the MODIFY TEAM section of the rules.

For leagues that complete their draft after 4:00 PM CT on Sunday, October 15, 2017 the only changes that you can make until 6:00 PM CT on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 are roster switches and first-come-first-served free agent acquisitions. For additional information regarding changes, please refer to the MODIFY TEAM section of these official Contest rules.

3 Guards

3 Forwards

2 Centers

2 Swing

Reserves

Your reserves must consist of any 7 players. There are no position requirements.

Player Positions, Listed Players, and Unlisted Players

The player positions are assigned by CDM Sports and do not change. Some players are eligible to be played at multiple positions and will carry their dual position eligibility for the entire contest.

You can select any available listed player during your league's draft. Listed players may be selected as starters and as reserves. A listed player's position has been determined by CDM Sports and will remain the same for the entire contest.

You cannot select an unlisted player during your league's draft.

To request that an unlisted player be added to the list, please email us at [email protected] or call our toll free customer service at 1.888.636.7559. All requests will be reviewed, and players will be added to the list at the discretion of CDM Sports. There are no guarantees that all requests will be met. Once a player has been added to the list of available players the player will not be available until the following week and must go through the worst-to-first claim process.

Online Draft

Once your league has 10 registered teams, the league and draft time are locked. You will receive an email confirming your league's draft date and time as well as the draft order for the teams in your league. Your draft will be conducted using this pre-determined, random-generated draft order in a serpentine order format such that Team 1 picks first, Team 2 picks second, and so on until Team 10 picks 10th. Then, team 10 picks 11th, Team 9 picks 12th, Team 8 picks 13th and so on until Team 1 picks 20th. Then, team 1 picks 21st and so forth through 17 rounds. In each round, you will have up to 75 seconds to draft your player. The draft order is set by CDM Sports and cannot be changed.

You may draft your players using three available methods:

  1. Live player selection
  2. Draft list selection
  3. Automated selection

Live Player Selection

You may select your player from the pool of available players during your allotted 75 seconds. To make live player selections, you must be logged on to the website during the time of your draft. Once you have made your live player selection, the draft proceeds to the next team in the draft order regardless of any time remaining in your 75-second allotment. If you do not complete your selection within 75 seconds, CDM Sports will select your player from your draft list, if available, or from the automated list, and will continue to auto-draft your players each time it is your team's turn to draft. You must turn off the automated drafting in order to resume making live player selections.

Draft List Selection

Prior to and during your league's draft, you may create a draft list of players that are ranked in the order that you would like them selected for your team. If you are not logged on to the website during the time of your draft and you have created a draft list, CDM Sports will select the next available player from your draft list that will fill an open position in your starting lineup. Once your starting lineup has been filled, CDM Sports will select your reserve players. If your draft list is exhausted, CDM Sports will select your player from the automated list. When drafting from your draft list, CDM Sports will select your next player as soon as it is your team's turn to draft and will not allow the 75 seconds to expire. If you log on during your draft, you must turn off the automated drafting in order to use your allocated 75 seconds and make live draft selections.

Automated Selection

If you are not logged on to the website during the time of your draft and you have not created a draft list, CDM Sports will select the next available player from the automated list of default player rankings. The default player rankings have been determined using CDM Sports Projections. When drafting from the automated list, CDM Sports will select your next player as soon as it is your team's turn to draft and will not allow the time to expire. If you log on during your draft, you must turn off the automated drafting in order to use your allocated time and make live draft selections.

Once the draft has been completed, you will receive an email confirming the rosters of the 10 teams in your league.

Refund Policy

To withdraw your team and receive a full refund of your entry fee, you must submit your request before 10 teams have registered for your league. All requests must be received in writing. Please allow at least 15 days to receive your refund check. Once 10 teams have registered for your league, the league is locked and no refunds will be issued.
