Ryan Strome picks up unassisted goal 02-21-2018
Ryan Strome RW EDM
Ryan Strome posted an unassisted goal in Tuesday's 3-2 loss against the visiting Bruins. Strome gave the team a 2-0 lead and he added a blocked shot and a hit over 14:29 of ice time. He has lit the lamp in back-to-back games, including the game-winner at Colorado on Sunday. He posted a point in a season-high three straight games from Jan. 25 to Feb. 5, and that happened just once. Mostly, he has struggled at the offensive end and that makes him worth using only in deeper fantasy pools until the points come a little more regularly. The two-game goal streak is a nice start.
Jujhar Khaira scores in Tuesday's home loss 02-21-2018
Jujhar Khaira LW EDM
Jujhar Khaira netted his ninth goal of the season in Tuesday's 3-2 loss against the Bruins. Khaira gave the Oilers a 2-0 lead, and they carried that into the third period before the Bruins found their offense and skated away with a 3-2 comeback road win. It was Khaira's first goal since Jan. 20, and just his second since Dec. 27. He remains useful only in the very deepest of fantasy pools until further notice.
Cam Talbot faces 45 shots in home loss 02-21-2018
Cam Talbot G EDM
Cam Talbot allowed three goals on 45 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 loss against the Bruins. Talbot was peppered again, as the defense was nearly non-existent. The Bruins popped off 13 shots in the first period, 18 in the second and 14 in the third. Talbot was standing on his head, holding Boston scoreless through the first 44:37 before the floodgates opened for three goals. It's a recurring theme, as the Oilers have had plenty of power outages this season and lapses on defense, leaving Talbot out on an island. That's not good for his overall fantasy appeal.
David Krejci nets game-winning marker 02-21-2018
David Krejci C BOS
David Krejci scored the game-winning goal with 64 seconds remaining in regulation in Tuesday's 3-2 win at Edmonton. Krejci posted three shots on goal with a hit over his 17:23 of ice time while winning eight of his 13 faceoff attempts. The game-winning tally was his first since Oct. 19, and it was the first point after six scoreless outings dating back to Feb. 6. It has been rough for Krejci, who has just 11 goals and 28 points. He is struggling, but just one season removed from 54 points. The buy-low window is wide open, as he is just 31 and still capable of producing big numbers.
Matthew Grzelcyk buries game-tying goal 02-21-2018
John Persson LW NYI
Matthew Grzelcyk bagged his second goal of the season in a 3-2 victory on Tuesday at Edmonton. Grzelcyk netted the game-tying goal midway through the final period, and eventually David Krejci struck with 64 seconds remaining in regulation to propel the team to a win. The rearguard Grzelcyk also added a plus-1 rating and hit over 16:26 of ice time. He has come alive with a goal and five points over his past seven games, but he remains useful only in deeper fantasy pools unless he keeps up the pace for a longer period.
Noel Acciari lights the lamp in Edmonton 02-21-2018
Noel Acciari C BOS
Noel Acciari scored a score while dishing out two hits in 13:06 of ice time in Tuesday's 3-2 win at Edmonton. Acciari also won his only faceoff attempt, but the big news was his first goal in five games since coming off the injured reserve list. Despite the lamp lighting on Tuesday, he is only worth fantasy consideration in the deepest of pools at the moment.
Anton Khudobin helps B's slip by Oil 02-21-2018
Anton Khudobin G BOS
Anton Khudobin allowed just two goals on 20 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 victory at Edmonton. Khudobin was rarely tested, as the Oilers squeezed off just three shots in the opening period. One of the shots went in after an unassisted Ryan Strome goal with 1:31, perhaps catching Khudobin napping after a lack of work. He gave up a Jujhar Khaira marker midway through a busier 11-shot second, and he stopped all six shots he faced in the third. When he starts Khudobin is a solid fantasy option in pools allowing daily transactions, and he can be an effective mid-tier DFS option as well.
Kings stop Hellebuyck's 3-game win streak 02-21-2018
Connor Hellebuyck G WPG
Connor Hellebuyck allowed four goals on 32 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. The Jets had a 1-0 lead going into the second period, but the Kings managed to score a pair of power play goals in the frame. Dustin Byfuglien tied the game at two, but Los Angeles got two more goals in the third to go ahead. The loss puts an end to Hellebuyck's three-game winning streak. He has a 31-9-8 record with a 2.37 goals-against-average and a .922 save percentage this season.
Darcy Kuemper pushes win streak to five games 02-21-2018
Darcy Kuemper G LA
Darcy Kuemper turned aside 30 of 33 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Two of the three goals Kuemper allowed came while the Jets were on the man-advantage. The Kings backup netminder has now won five consecutive decisions. He has a 10-1-3 record with a 2.10 goals-against-average and a .932 save percentage this season. Kuemper doesn't play enough to have fantasy value in standard leagues, but he's been one of the better backup goalies in the league this season.
Blake Wheeler nets 2 points in loss to Kings 02-21-2018
Blake Wheeler RW WPG
Blake Wheeler picked up a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Wheeler's power play goal in the first period gave the Jets a 1-0 lead at the time. He also registered the primary assist on Patrik Laine's tally on the man-advantage in the final minute of regulation. The Jets captain finished the night with two shots on goal and three hits in 21:53 of ice time. The 31-year-old is up to 17 goals and 69 points in 60 games. He's riding a six-game point streak. The veteran has put himself in the Hart Trophy discussion. Dustin Byfuglien also scored for Winnipeg on Tuesday night.
Dion Phaneuf keeps scoring for Kings 02-21-2018
Dion Phaneuf D LA
Dion Phaneuf scored in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Phaneuf's power play marker at the 17:05 mark of the second period gave the Kings a 2-1 lead at the time. He's been a terrific addition since being acquired from the Ottawa Senators last week. Phaneuf has scored three goals in four games since joining Los Angeles. There's no way he'll be able to keep this up, so his fantasy owners should enjoy it while it lasts. The 32-year-old has six goals and 19 points in 57 games this season. Alec Martinez, Torrey Mitchell and Dustin Brown also scored for Los Angeles on Tuesday night.
Carter Hutton allows 3 goals in loss to SJ 02-21-2018
Carter Hutton G STL
Carter Hutton allowed three goals on 23 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks. Hutton kept the Sharks off the board in the first and third periods, but he gave up three goals in the middle frame. The Blues goaltender has now dropped three of his last four games. The 32-year-old has a 15-6-2 record with a 1.87 goals-against-average and a .938 save percentage this season. It looks like he and Jake Allen will continue splitting starts until one of them emerges as the clear-cut number one goalie. That isn't an ideal situation for fantasy owners.
Martin Jones collects 3rd consecutive win 02-21-2018
Martin Jones G SJ
Martin Jones stopped 31 of 33 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues. All five goals scored in the game came in the middle period. Jones turned aside 30 of 31 shots at even-strength, but he gave up a power play tally to Vladimir Tarasenko late in the second frame. Jones is now riding a three-game winning streak. He's also been victorious in four of his last five outings. The Sharks netminder has a 19-15-5 record with a 2.53 goals-against-average and a .916 save percentage.
