Frustration boiled over for Henrik Zetterberg after Thursday's 4-0 loss to Vegas.

Detroit Free Press
"There's too much poke-and-hope on a lot of players," Zetterberg said. "If you want to be a solid good player in this league, and if you want to win something, you have to learn to play the right way. Poke-and-hope might get you 25-30 goals, but you will never win anything." The Red Wings captain added that it's important to play defense first and not gamble all the time.

Islanders' playoff hopes are rapidly fading 03-09-2018
Doug Weight C NYI
The New York Islanders have lost their last eight contests.

New York Newsday
The silver lining is that four of those defeats came in overtime or a shootout, so at least they've picked up some consolation points along the way. Even still, this stretch has all-but ended their playoff hopes. The Islanders are now seven points behind in the Wild Card race with just 14 games left on their schedule. They're only two points ahead of the Rangers and the Rangers are a team that opted to begin a major rebuild before the trade deadline.

Taylor Hall's point streak is at an end 03-09-2018
Taylor Hall LW NJ
Taylor Hall's record-breaking point streak came to an end on Thursday.

The Bergen Record
How long that point streak was requires a somewhat complicated answer. Officially, it was a 19-game point streak and that was the longest in Devils' history as well as the longest streak of the campaign. However, the NHL doesn't include anything that happened before Hall missed three games due to a thumb injury. If you want to look at his point streak another way, then he recorded at least a point in 26 consecutive contests that he appeared in. Either way, this is the first time in 2018 that Hall has been held off the scoresheet.

Raleigh News & Observer
It was Aho's 24th goal of the campaign, which matches the 20-year-old's rookie total. Aho's 52 points as a sophomore is already three points ahead of what he produced last season and of course there's still a good chunk of hockey left.

Corey Perry hits the 40-point mark 03-09-2018
Corey Perry RW ANA
Corey Perry has reached the 40-point milestone.

Orange County Register
Perry got there by registering an assist on Thursday. While that's a solid contribution, it's a disappointment coming from him, especially given the eight-year, $69 million contract that he's only halfway through. He dipped to 53 points in 2016-17 and he hasn't been able to bounce back.
Ryan Getzlaf has 11 points in four games 03-09-2018
Ryan Getzlaf C ANA

Orange County Register
Getzlaf has been limited to 43 games this season, but he's been outstanding when healthy with nine goals and 49 points. His 1.14 points-per-game pace is good for ninth place in the NHL among those who have participated in at least 40 contests and it would result in him finishing with 93 points if he had maintained that pace over 82 games.

Phil Grubauer allows two goals in loss 03-09-2018
Philipp Grubauer G WAS
Philipp Grubauer allowed two goals on 28 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. The loss breaks Grubauer's personal four-game winning streak. He put in another fine performance in goal but his teammates just couldn't crack Jonathan Quick tonight. The German netminder remains one of the better backup goaltenders in the league, but the loss drops his record to 8-8-3 with a 2.35 goals-against-average and a .923 save percentage.
Jonathan Quick gets the best of Ovi and Caps 03-09-2018
Jonathan Quick G LA
Jonathan Quick stopped 25 of 26 shots in a 3-1 win over the Washington Capitals. Quick somehow got across to rob John Carlson with the pad and then with the blocker on the follow-up. The 32-year-old goaltender now owns a 26-4-2 record with a 2.44 goals-against-average and a .922 save percentage. The win keep the Kings two points behind the Sharks for the third spot in the Pacific division.
Jakub Vrana scores in loss to Kings 03-09-2018
Jakub Vrana LW WAS
Jakub Vrana scored in a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Vrana showed incredible hand-eye coordination to bat the puck out of mid-air from behind the net for his 12th goal of the year. The former 13th overall pick is slowly improving and could be a guy worth monitoring heading into next season. He's now up to 23 points in 61 games this season.
Two-point night for Jeff Carter in win 03-09-2018
Jeff Carter C LA
Jeff Carter had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over the Washington Capitals. Carter just got enough of the puck off a rebound the get it over the line with just under five minutes in the first period to open the scoring. Since returning from his long absence due to an ankle injury, the 33-year-old forward has picked up five points in six games, bringing him to four goals and eight points in 12 games this season. He's available in 27% of Yahoo leagues and should definitely be scooped up for your playoff push.
Martin Jones not busy in shutout win 03-09-2018
Martin Jones G SJ
Martin Jones stopped all 17 shots he faced in a 2-0 win over the St. Louis Blues. The Blues barely showed a pulse tonight, managing only three shots in the final period despite being down a goal for half of the final frame. It'll go down as one of Jones' easiest shutouts of his career. The win improves his record to 22-17-6 with a 2.49 goals-against-average and a .917 save percentage.
Jake Allen loses fifth straight game 03-09-2018
Jake Allen G STL
Jake Allen allowed one goal on 35 shots in a 2-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks. Considering the Sharks finished with twice as many shots on goal as the Blues, we wouldn't blame Allen if he was a bit angry with his teammates after the game. The 27-year-old goaltender put in a fine performance but he'll now drop his fifth straight game. His record sits at 19-20-2 with a 2.79 goals-against-average and a .906 save percentage.
Brodziak has team-high 4 SOG in loss 03-09-2018
Kyle Brodziak C STL
The St. Louis Blues were shutout 2-0 by the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night. To put into perspective how bad a night the Blues had, they managed only 17 total shots on goal with Kyle Brodziak leading the team with four. Nobody else had more than two in the game. After trading away Paul Stastny at the deadline, it appears St. Louis have thrown in the towel on their season.
Mikkel Boedker scores in win over Blues 03-09-2018
Mikkel Boedker LW SJ
Mikkel Boedker scored a goal in a 2-0 win over the St. Louis Blues. Boedker ended a run of six games without a goal, bringing him to 13 goals and 27 points in 59 games so far this season. It's a huge two points for the Sharks that keeps them two points ahead of the Los Angeles Kings for the third spot in Pacific division. Boedker is a former eighth overall pick but hasn't done much offensively since arriving in San Jose. Tomas Hertl added an empty net goal.
Chris Gibson has best NHL start in loss 03-09-2018
Christopher Gibson G NYI
Christopher Gibson stopped 35 of 36 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Gibson was only beat after Connor McDavid managed to bank the puck in off an Islander and in with just under two minutes left in regulation. It's Gibson's best start of his career, but he still wasn't able to come away with a victory. The 25-year-old Finnish goalkeeper now has a 0-0-2 record this season with a 1.86 goals-against-average and .954 save percentage. He's not the answer in goal for the Islanders.
Cam Talbot allows one goal in SO win 03-09-2018
Cam Talbot G EDM
Cam Talbot stopped 30 of 31 shots in a 2-1 shootout win over the New York Islanders. Adam Larsson summed up Talbot's game perfectly post-game, saying "(Talbot) came up with a couple huge saves and that kind of won the game for us." Talbot has now won back-to-back starts, and four of his last seven overall. After such a great season last year, he has regressed, posting a 24-26-2 record with a 3.07 goals-against-average and a .905 save percentage. With the Oilers out of the playoff race, he'll have plenty of time in the off-season to re-evaluate his game and try and get it right next season. We'd be surprised if the Oilers didn't bring in more competition in goal for the start of next season.
Hickey scores fourth goal of the year 03-09-2018
Thomas Hickey D NYI
Thomas Hickey scored a goal in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Brock Nelson made a nice move around an Edmonton Oilers before dumping it off to Hickey who beat Cam Talbot for his fourth goal of the year. Hickey is a former fourth overall pick back in 2007, but his game never quite developed as some had hoped. Despite turning into a solid puck-mover at the back, he does not own any fantasy upside.
McDavid ties it late, scores shootout winner 03-09-2018
Connor McDavid C EDM
Connor McDavid scored a goal and the shootout winner in a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders. McDavid tied the game by banking the puck in off an Islander from behind the red line with just under two minutes remaining in regulation. He then showed off his slick hands to go forehand, backhand, and then forehand again for the winner in the shootout. The 21-year-old forward is now up to 31 goals and 81 points in 67 games this season. It's such a shame the Oilers wasted such a great year from their star forward.
